Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 did not have dedicated servers on PC, which caused some controversy a couple years ago. Generally, dedicated servers provide a smoother online experience and allow more players to join a match. Today at Gamescom Activision confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will have dedicated servers for the PC version. This is part of an effort to show PC gamers that Activision is serious about the platform.

One concern Activision has with the PC version, though, is the fact that it is an open platform and cheating will be easier than it will be on the consoles. With Call of Duty Elite, the upcoming social network for the shooter series, Activision will be giving away many, many prizes in official contests. If you don't win something, then you'll know someone who has, Activision says. The company has budgeted millions and millions of dollars for real-world prizes to be given away.

With so much competition and rewards to be won, PC cheaters are a definite concern for Activision. Representatives said it is actively working on solutions and won't ship Modern Warfare 3 without being able to ensure a fair fight for players.

See. This is how you know there will be limitations on dedicated servers on PC. Look at MW2's IWNet and Black Ops' so called dedicated servers with limitations. Black Ops has an 18 - 24 player limit. You can't even level up in Unranked Servers, in which, I know that they are Unranked, BUT, how about having separate stats for both types of servers?

I, personally, don't care about the Call Of Duty Elite program. They can have 2 types of servers: Ranked and Normal. The 'Ranked' servers will let you compete in the Elite program and have it's own stats just for that. The 'Normal' servers is where server customization comes in.

Normal Servers

Map Rotation how the server clan or manager sees fit
32+ Players / Admin Decision
Anti-Cheat Tools (not VAC)
Mods (if there's a possibility)
Level/Rank Up and all normal unlocks
Full Customization
No 'Elite' Program

Ranked Servers

Not that I'm for it; I'm actually against it, but whatever the developers decide. Actually, since consoles (360, PS3) COULD have dedicated servers, why not make a 32 player limit for ranked servers IF the consoles could handle that many players? The CoD engine is as old as the consoles are anyway.

What ever the case may be, I wouldn't want to get forced into a limited ranked server just to play the game and use Elite. Let that stay on the consoles.

This is why I'm glad I and others didn't fully purchase Black Ops. It would be a waste of time money to play on lockdown servers with 5 minutes a match and a 750 point limit. That just isn't the PC way.

They can either do P2P/Ranked Servers/Normal Servers or this will be another CoD not to purchase from greedy ass Acmevision.
