Steam here- It provides a lot of the same features as Xplay, although I know people have had issues in the past with the overlay (You're able to disable the overlay in the steam options).

Re: Alternatives To Xfire
I've done some testing and the closest programs to Xfire I see are Razer Comms and Steam so far. Garena doesn't have many features and ingame is questionable.
EVOLVE is good for importing your Xfire friends list to, but since I don't think Xfire(1) will be around tomorrow, that probably won't matter anyway. EVOLVE has a big square window and another smaller window for friends similar to Steam. I'd just rather everything be in one package, but that's just me. I haven't gotten it's ingame overlay to work for something like CoDWaW so far.
Curse Voice also has a huge window and it is still growing (it's still in beta). I don't think it offers ingame support for many games yet. It's closely associated with games like League Of Legends, Mindcraft, and some others.
Steam is the most popular, by far. I just can't get into it that fast. I don't know what it is, but I only use it to play a game I may have stopped playing some time ago or if something new just came out. If I turn it on, I mainly notice the huge window and yes, you can remove it from the screen every time it starts.
However, the program that shares the most in common with Xfire's features and being compact is Razer Comms, which is also in beta. The Ingame overlay works and it's not all over the screen like Xfire2. It has a friends list, games list, and voice chat. It also has groups, group chat, broadcasting, and video recording. I'll just say (for now) that I think it has all of the main Xfire features. If there's one thing it will need for sure, it will be skin support for colors and an option to shrink the friends and games list (maybe the icons) so you can double the amount of things you see at one time.
I'll keep looking.

Re: Alternatives To Xfire
I suggest steam. They have fixed most of the problems they have had over the years and they are reliable now and very customizable.
Re: Alternatives To Xfire
Does Steam allow in game notifications and switching for chat?
When Xfire was recommended, and I started using it, I like the fact you can switch to it in game easily.
I have a single monitor, and alt-tab to another window with WAW seems to freeze/crash WAW for me. When I played BF4, I could alt-tab and the game seemed to be fine when I returned.

Re: Alternatives To Xfire
Steam seems to have issues with overlay in WaW, but if you play in Windowed mode, you should be able to avoid crashing every time you alt-tab.
If you go into the config_mp.cfg file located in "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\activision\codwaw\players\profiles\PLAYERNAME"
and change the line with seta r_fullscreen "1" to to seta r_fullscreen "0", the game will let you alt-tab without crashing or disconnecting from the game.

For some reason World at War and Steam overlay don't get along. (Multiple people have had issues with the game crashing whenever the overlay is enabled).

If I alt tab in WAW my game dont crash, but after about 10 seconds I am kicked (I think it is because of response)
I have now razer. my name is PDE-Jano-

Re: Alternatives To Xfire
From where this panic came from? Its just a shutdown of xfire social stuff, not xfire at all, we still can use it to simple communicate things

I was think that as well a couple days ago, but I'm not sure yet. I know on their FBIBook page, they said that they were shutting down the social and client. Xfire (and Xfire2) had also went down for a long period yesterday or the day before. I will still logon to Xfire as long as it allows, but it's a wait and see for now.
Re: Alternatives To Xfire
Well, I have used Steam and Skype as my primary means of game/voip management for about 6 years now, and I am pretty happy with them both.
I have also tried Razor comms for a few weeks when it came out, and was actually pretty happy with how it worked. Similar to xfire, but much cleaner and runs better.
I would still prefer if we could just use steam, as that is the biggest platform on the market, and thus would ensure us easier transition most likely, but razor comms is not a bad alternative.

Re: Alternatives To Xfire
Xfire client is officially done. Some good news for me with Steam is I found how to make it much smaller and get rid of that big window. The thing is, it's only the friends list hehe. I wish it was like Xfire with tabs and being more compact so I could have everything on one small window. Maybe I'm behind with that so if anyone has some advice on that, I'd like to hear.
So far, Razer Comms is the closest thing to Xfire and these are the two programs I'll be online in (if I can just think about Steam sometimes).
