R.I.P. AlterIWNet? - Looks Like It's Gone Forever

I had written an entire article about this when the site decides to f up my post while previewing it, so heres the very short version:


After this, AlterIWNet was formed for the PC community to bring dedicated servers and features back to players. It had a good run and there were a lot of happy users. Well, this isn't something Activision wants. They don't want happy, comfortable PC customers. They have now gotten AlterIWNet, the ONLY way to play CoD (MW2/BO/MW3) somewhat properly, shut down.

As you've definitely heard, alterIWNet received a Cease and Desist notification from Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP on behalf of Activision Publishing Inc, demanding that we stop our operations due to infringing US and International laws.

It is for this reason that we're shutting down our operation indefinitely. Please refrain from taking any actions on our behalf, such as harassing letters, posts, "denial of service" attacks, telling your grandmother or anything else that you may deem wise. There is nothing more we can do here, unless Activision recognise us as a legitimate modding community.

Thank you all for your continued dedication and contributions to alterIWNet and to PC gaming as a whole.

Well, im not a big fan of MW2, BO or MW3, but the way how alterIWnet runs them is pretty impressing, they did something what Activision missed, they did that for peoples. They showed how to do something that will be apprecieated by players all over the world. After Activision broke all fun with removing dedicated servers, alter fixed it, that give us the reason for trying what MW2/3 or Bo is.

Its really unfair that Av treat them like that, they dont deserve that, but the companies like them.. will never understand simple things. If they except for some much money, they wouldnt get this for their shitty releases. They will lost many CoD lovers.

They only we can do, its just saying simple "Thank You" for all of aIW work, i dont like games, but i respect aIW so much.

well, me on the other hand, dont really like iwnet. the concept its indeed well thought, but from what i saw in mw2/mw3 (BO has dedi servers) the way it worked was simply wrong. u had to wait 5/10 min for it to find players, the latency was huge due to p2p system and the ping also, disgusting. the lowest ping i've experienced in mw2 was 150/160.... didnt play that mutch of mw3, but the system its the same and so does the game, textures. cant say i am sad whit the end of iwnet since i am a dedi server fan and i really hope that its stays the way it is today. if they decide to do like in wow, then we gonna have some troubles.

LOL Caho you misunderstood the topic or have never heard of ALTERIWNET, not IWNET. AlterIWNet is the alternative way to play MW2/BO/MW3 with TRUE dedicated servers, not P2P lag. Seems like IWNET/P2P CoD won't stop being primary with Activision forcing it on players.

AlterIWNet = Made by PC Community, Dedicated Servers and Features (almost like CoD4)

IWNET = Default P2P lag, lobby systems (MW2, MW3)

ALTERIWNET has just been shut down so now you HAVE to play with P2P lag FOREVER MUAHAHAHAAAA (or something like that).

well, i really never used alternet since i have mw2/3 original, so i cant say i've tested it before. my post was about iwnet and that its ulter crap in my book. alter, never had the chance to tested unfortunally. now that u mention it, i went back to see your post whit full atention and yes, u are totally right. i did bad understanding of what u were showing anyway, guess ppl will always find a way to fight back and that i am sure of it.... but tbh, cod franchise its going down the drain, at least for pc version....

Activision is targetting young children to play an R-rated game in consoles, showing a lot of disrespect for the PC community, and it's a wrong way to make profit.
The version Alter made SHOULD have been the original game!!!
I'm boycotting COD until they figure out they could make even more money with pc gamers, allowing simple things like: console, dedicated servers, etc.
MW2 Alter gave me a lot of fun (and a lot of rage also), and I will miss the cool gamers I used to talk to, and will probably never talk to them again
I bought cod4 because I really felt they deserved my money for making an excellent job, but I don't feel that way about mw2 or mw3...
