This is for all punkbuster enabled servers. For newcomers, Punkbuster is anti-cheat software in case you're wondering why servers have it enabled.

If you all are wondering why come here instead of the going to the main punkbuster site, as of the end of 2013, punkbuster support has been dropped for CoD4 and CoDWaW and is not on the list at their site. Just follow the simple guide below.

If you haven't had any problems with punkbuster, then you are fine. Don't change anything.

First, download and run THIS FILE. It will install the main Punkbuster. If you already have Punkbuster (it installs with CoDWaW already), then skip this part and go to the next.

Next, download the CoDWaW or CoD4 specific files below and copy them to the required folder explained in the download. Alternatively, you can download the WaW installer versions at the bottom of the page (for Steam or Retail CD) and just double click and they will put the files where they should go. Don't have the game running while installing.


Don't download a file called PBSETUP for this game as it doesn't have the CoDWaW/CoD4 tab there anymore and may cause crashes. Only download the file above and the file below.

EXTRA INFO FOR MANUAL INSTALL: Some people may be doing this wrong.
The /pb folder inside the pack downloaded here goes into your main Call Of Duty World At War folder. It should look like "Call Of Duty World At War/pb" not "Call Of Duty World At War/pb/pb"

Retail (Disc) Version:

"X:\Program Files\Activision\Call Of Duty World At War\pb"

Steam Version:

32-Bit - "X:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Call Of Duty World At War\pb"

64-Bit - "X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call Of Duty World At War\pb"

I have registered only to say : I love you .... My problem has been resolved   .... Thank you very much .

Now every time I join a server, it just says "Awaiting Connection...1..." then it counts to 11, and quit back to the MP menu, what am I doing wrong? Edit: Just reinstalled it and it's working, thank you.

Having a bit of trouble getting the files in the right places, and i'd be relieved to have some help since I've been told that going through this site fixes this pb init failure. If someone is able to help, give me a way to contact you so that you can walk me through this.

Well the read me file included in the second download link explains right where to put the files, but if you have Xfire, you can add me and I'll help you with it.

im not sure where to put the folder when i download it

In your Call Of Duty World At War folder. If you already have a /pb folder, then overwrite it or drop the contents inside the folder into it. We are also in the chatbox on the front page and on the forum page if you need quicker live help. If you have Xfire, you can add: kersey001.

but where is that folder located exactly?

It should be in C:/Program Files/Activision or something like that on your PC
